Rousseau Philippe J.

Starting February 21, 2015, employers hiring foreign nationals who are exempt from the Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) process will be required to pay a new fee of $230 dollars in addition to submitting additional information about their business and the offer of employment.

Impact Assessment (LMIA) process will be required to pay a new fee of $230 dollars in addition to submitting additional information about their business and the offer of employment. According to Citizenship and Immigration Canada this new fee will “offset the cost of introducing robust employer compliance activities featuring inspections of thousands of employers”.Also starting February 21, 2015, a new fee of $100 will be collected from open work permit applicants. Such applicants will therefore have to pay the usual processing fee of $155 plus the new $100 fee. This new fee must be paid on-line before any LMIA-exempt work permit is issued.
